Instruction of Solder Dross Remover
Instruction:

With more and more LF products coming, the higher temperature caused much more solder dross than tin lead process in wave soldering, even caused higher Nitrogen consumption.

The purpose of this evaluation is to evaluate the solder dross reductant, JR07-VI, to get the quantitive performance of this chemical and to see how it performs in both tin lead and lead free wave soldering.

The function of this solder dross remover is to:
Act with Sn oxide  rapidly, deoxidize Sn back to pot
Form a protecting layer on surface of the pot to reduce oxidation

The small amount test at one corner of solder pot. Solder dross was rapidly deoxidized and formed a thin layer of mixed compound (no Sn included) on surface of the pot.
                  






Initial Sample Test in LF Solder Pot
Solder dross before and after treatment:
 
Heavy solder dross on surface of pot, 99% are solder and tin oxidation
Cement like dross, almost are carbide and organic compounds on surface of pot

Quantitive Dross Remover Evaluation
One LF wave pot and one Pb wave pot in Bu6 and Bu3 respectively were selected to do evaluation on real production line.

Evaluation step:
1.Remove all solder dross in the wave pot
2.Add around 350ml dross remover to the pot surface to form a thin layer
3.In producing, add 100~200 ml every 3~4hours to prevent dross generation(no product, no need to add and just need to monitor and add 50ml to keep the layer on the surface on pot
4.Record liquid consumption and dross quantity every day until the dross remover used up

Bu6 LF Wave Pot Try Run
Step: Clean up all solder dross in the pot

Add the first batch of JR07-VI to protect the surface of pot

Add one stainless breakwater in pot to prevent the chemical dispersing on solder surface

For bu6 LF wave, first amount is around 350ml, after 4 hours, add 110 to keep the working status of this reductant. (Evaluation period: 10-24~11-02 2007)

Bu3 TinLead Wave Pot Try Run
Step:  Remove all solder dross in the pot
1.Add the first batch of JR07-VI to protect the surface of pot
2.Add one stainless breakwater in pot to prevent the chemical dispersing on solder surface
3.For bu3 LF wave, first amount is around 350ml, every two hours need add 200ml reductant as the solder dross is too much.(Evaluation period: 10-25~10-29 2007)

Solder Dross Reductant Evaluation Summary
Based on the rough data analysis for this solder dross reductant evaluation, for Lead Free solder pot, using this dross reductant would bring RMB425 cost saving per day. For tin lead wave pot, it would bring RMB253 cost saving per day.
